The Jericho Historical Society was formed in 1971 to restore and preserve Chittenden Mills.  Its mission expanded to that of preserving the rich history of Jericho, Vermont, and the legacy of Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley. The Society's headquarters is located in the historic Chittenden Mills (c. 1885), a national historic site.

In celebration of America's 250th anniversary in 2026, the Jericho Historical Society will hold a special ceremony to honor the Revolutionary War Patriots laid to rest in the Jericho Center Cemetery. We have identified, and with the help of the Green Mountain Chapter of the DAR, verified the service of 11 individuals who served in the fight for independence.

Following is the list of those brave Patriots whom we will honor:
  • Isaac Benham
  • Caleb Nash Sr.
  • Nathaniel Blackman
  • Ebenezer Reed
  • Asa Hapgood
  • Azariah Rood
  • John Lee IV
  • Roger Stevens
  • John Lyman
  • Jabez Ichabod
  • Warner Roderick Messenger
We will, in a special ceremony, be placing Revolutionary War Veteran grave markers and flags on each grave. If you are, or know of, a descendant of one of these men who would like to participate in placing a flag on their ancestor's grave, or if you are aware of any Revolutionary War veteran buried in Jericho Center Cemetery who is not on our list, please reach out to the Historical Society by phone at (802) 899-3225 or email [email protected].

The ceremony will be held on Sunday, July 5th at 1:00PM at the Jericho Center Cemetery, Barber Farm Road, Jericho VT

  • Enjoy exploring the "Old Red Mill" through this digital archival 3D model by Warren and Gary Irish.  See the mill as it would have looked during its original days of operation between 1885 - 1904.  This is the beginning of an ongoing project, so visit from time to time to see the progress!
  • Where did they go?  Beginning in the 1920’s, land was procured in Jericho for what is now a Vermont National Guard post. Did you ever wonder what happened to the folks who lived on that land?  Terri Hook did.  Learn what he found about where the families who lived on the land currently occupied by the Ethan Allen Firing Range ended up.
